Help Wanted
Our Volunteer department depends exclusively on the support and participation of Men and Women from the community. Being a member of the SFD is fun, hard, and rewarding work. We are proud to retain and train so many talented individuals. We seek individuals living in the Bozeman Montana area who are committed to working in a professional manner as a member of a team dedicated to providing outstanding service to the Community.
We have many Volunteer positions and not all members fight fire. Support personnel who do not wish to fight fire, but can Volunteer needed skills and services for the benefit of the team are welcomed and strongly encouraged to apply. These positions include facilities and apparatus maintnance, neighborhood network coordinator and kitchen crew/chef.

What you should know about the Job
The SFD's Volunteer fire fighters are trained to national standards and perform the exact same duties as a paid department. We provide over 200 hours of annual training including Emergency Medical Technician certification. The Men and Women of SFD range in age from 18 to 70+ and live inside and out of the district in the Bozeman area.
We respond to structure fires, grass and vehicles fires, medical emergencies, traffic collisions, hazardous materials and other emergencies in and around the Bozeman area as well as, providing mutual aid throughout Montana. Our Fire engines carry specialized equipment, including Jaws of Life and other firefighting and rescue tools.
The fire chief is responsible for the evaluation, training, retention, and discipline of the department's fire fighters. Fire fighters are accepted only after successfully passing a multi-stage interview process. Once accepted all are subject to a probationary period.
We have an extensive training and evaluation program. This includes written procedures and policies. Direct and positive feedback from peers is an essential and continuous part of the evaluation program. Personal safety and attention to providing outstanding customer service are constantly emphasized.
We have many expectations of each member and they include;

Attend training on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 11:00 PM

Stay overnight at a Fire Station or work a shift four times per month

Respond to the majority of incidents

Attend department activities a minimum of 3 weekends during the year

Prepare yourself mentally and physically for the work we perform

Become an accomplished practitioner of our service delivery methods
